Giovanni Fontana founded Valextra in 1937 – opening the atelier in a building with floor to ceiling windows, allowing him to view the Milanese day-to-day lifestyle. His preoccupation with engineering leather goods using artisanal methods to meet the demands of everyday life permeated all his inventions, a manner not forgotten today.
